She was lied to by the man and is sold into sexual slavery and is forced to be a prostitute. She then kills herself. Very sad movie like I said.

Yes, I took a Russian history class. We watched a lot of movies. Especially ones made during the Soviet Union. Often times mostly propaganda films. I remember another film, it was made during the 1970s about a man trying to go home to his wife. He is in the desert and comes across a bunch of wives of a muslim man and saves them. Sorry I can't remember the names. And yes, my teacher told me that it is tradition for Russians to watch C легким паром on New Years.
